I had to put my trophy truck project away for a while because I was waiting on a few key components. Without them I couldn’t design some parts and may have to tweak others. They finally showed up and I’m back on the project. First I ordered up two hydraulic brake kits from AMS. I got them without the brake discs because I am designing and building my own brake rotor assembly for the truck. And how about those wheels! I was going to design and machine my own wheels but was worried about cost due to the complex machining that they require. The guys over at RC4WD told me that they were working on a KMC replica wheel so I held off on my design and bugged the living daylights out of those guys for any and all information on the wheels because they were the perfect match for my truck. Well, here they are and they are beautiful. I’m going to be modifying them a bit so that they work with my custom rotors and I’m going to paint them so they have a more realistic look. I am wrapping RC4WD Dune Reapers around the wheels. I have to spend a little time getting the wheels drawn in CAD then I can continue with my design. I am going to SEMA in Las Vegas on Monday and there will be several short course and trophy trucks there. I’m going to get lots of photos for reference material and I hope to have a rolling chassis by May. Wish me luck!
